UCO, a cutting edge university

The University of Córdoba, UCO, is one of the main academic institutions in the country thanks to the quality of its teaching and research team. It plays a fundamental role in the development of human capital and the city’s innovation system, and maintains close ties with the local business fabric.

The UCO is two hundred years old. Founded as such in 1972, it has its roots in the Free University, created in the province of Cordoba at the end of the 19th century. It combines centuries-old studies such as Veterinary Studies, unique in Andalusia, with a strong agri-food and engineering component. These is indeed a campus specialized in these last two fields (Rabanales).

Its youth and its average size – the UCO has 21,000 students, just over 1,200 teachers and 700 workers – have endowed it with the dynamism necessary to enter the 21st century as a University of high teaching quality and proven scientific acumen.

The UCO offers studies from Humanities and Legal-Social Sciences to Health Sciences and scientific-technical careers, three areas that correspond to its three main campuses: Social- Law, Health, and Agri-food. scientific and technical.

Among its studies and degrees, some such as those offered by the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Agrónomos (ETSIAM) and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine are internationally recognized.

Thus, the UCO is among the one hundred best universities in the world (top 0.5%) in Veterinary and Agronomical Sciences, between 100 and 150 in Food Sciences and Technology, and between 200 and 300 in Energy Sciences and Engineering, according to the main international rankings.

Loyola University

Loyola University is the first private university of social initiative in Andalusia. It is part of a network of more than 230 university centres around the world. It has its origin in ETEA, the Faculty of Economic and Business Sciences of Córdoba, which has been teaching higher education since 1963. Currently, it has a campus in the city with more than 900 undergraduate students.

Its academic offer, based on the pillars of Training, Research and Service, is aimed at the social sciences and technology.

The Institute of Sustainable Agriculture is an agricultural research centre of the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) that is focused on the strategic analysis of resources to improve the sustainability of agriculture, as well as on investigating existing options for the exploitation of these resources in a sustainable and economically viable way.

INSTITUTO DE INVESTIGACIÓN Y FORMACIÓN AGRARIA Y PESQUERA – IFAPA

The IFAPA, part of the Alameda del Obispo Agrifood Campus, carries out research and training activities of great strategic importance thanks to its proximity and ties with agricultural research institutions such as the University of Córdoba, the Institute of Sustainable Agriculture-CSIC, etc. Its objective is to contribute to the modernization of the rural world, promoting innovation and technological development of agricultural companies and the agri-food industry through the generation of knowledge and its adaptation to the agri-food system.

HOSPITAL UNIVERSITARIO REINA SOFÍA

The Reina Sofía University Hospital is a centre for specialized healthcare, teaching and research in health sciences. Its organ transplant program is a national leader.

CAMPUS DE EXCELENCIA INTERNACIONAL AGROALIMENTARIO – CEIA3

The Campus of International Excellence in Agri-Food, ceiA3, is the result of the integration of the Universities of Almería, Cádiz, Huelva and Jaén, led by the University of Córdoba. Five institutions with a long-standing scientific tradition that collaborate to respond to the agri-food challenges of the 21st century. The Campus puts the results of the scientific work of its more than three hundred research teams at the service of society and also offers companies a wide array of technical services so that they can solve any problems that may arise in the development of their activity.

INSTITUTO MAIMÓNIDES DE INVESTIGACIÓN BIOMÉDICA DE CÓRDOBA – IMIBIC

The Maimonides Institute for Biomedical Research of Córdoba (IMIBIC) is a cutting-edge biomedical centre. This institute is one of the 31 institutes accredited by the Carlos III Health Institute in Spain for health research. The IMIBIC is a multidisciplinary research space in which scientists from the university and health fields work together to improve the health of citizens and the social and economic development of the province of Córdoba.

INSTITUTO UNIVERSITARIO DE INVESTIGACIÓN EN QUÍMICA FINA Y NANOQUÍMICA – IUIQFN

This institute, dedicated to Fine Chemistry and Nanochemistry, brings together 15 research groups belonging to different areas of Chemistry. Its mission is the generation of new knowledge (basic research) and the transfer of that knowledge to society, fostering collaboration between researchers.

CENTRO ANDALUZ DE INVESTIGACIÓN EN ZOONOSIS Y DE VIGILANCIA DE ENFERMEDADES EMERGENTES

This entity was born with the aim of becoming a benchmark in the field of research on zoonoses and emerging diseases, particularly pathogens that can spread to humans through contact with any animal or the ingestion of food.
